Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo's Statement on Governor Gavin Newsom’s January Budget Proposal

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement on Governor Gavin Newsom’s January budget proposal unveiled Wednesday.

“I’m glad to see that Governor Newsom’s budget proposal to accelerate the Exide clean-up amplifies what we’ve done so far. The proposed $50 million one-time expenditure would help clean high-risk properties and provide relief to many families in AD51 and surrounding districts.

The Governor’s overall budget includes significant investments that address issues concerning all Californians and specifically constituents of my district. The proposal includes more dollars for early childhood education, affordable housing, homelessness, access to healthcare, expanded paid family leave and a $1 billion family tax credit that will help over 400,000 families lift themselves out of poverty.

It’s a bold and expansive budget proposal, and I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues to form a final budget that helps make the California dream a reality.”

Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo was elected as the representative of the 51st Assembly District in December of 2017. She is a member of the Health, Appropriations, Utilities & Energy, Labor and Rules  Committees. Carrillo represents the people of East Los Angeles, Northeast Los Angeles, and the neighborhoods of El Sereno, Echo Park, Lincoln Heights, Chinatown and parts of Silver Lake.
