Assemblymember Carrillo Honors California Highway Patrol Officer Gina Jojola as Assembly District 51 Woman of the Year

SACRAMENTO, CA  — Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo (D-Los Angeles) announced that Officer Gina S. Jojola of the East Los Angeles California Highway Patrol Station was named the 2020 Woman of the Year of the 51st Assembly District. The Woman of the Year honor celebrates achievements of trailblazing women throughout the state during Women’s History Month.

“Please join me in congratulating Officer Gina Jojola, a ten-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol as our 2020 Woman of the Year for Assembly District 51”, Assemblymember Carrilo said. “Officer Jojola is a trusted friend and valuable partner serving our CHP East Los Angeles community. Her selfless dedication and tireless efforts have touched and changed countless lives throughout our district and I am proud to recognize her efforts and many accomplishments.”

“It’s an honor to receive this award,” Officer Jojola said. “East Los Angeles is filled with many deserving female role models, and I’m thankful to be selected among many great contributors to our community.  As an Officer for the California Highway Patrol, I am inspired by the many good people I meet every day, and dedicate this award to those people who continue to make a positive impact in our community.”

Officer Gina S. Jojola, is a ten-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol serving the East Los Angeles community.  In 2012 and 2013 she earned the “Century Award” by Mothers Against Drunk Drivers for arresting at least 100 DUI drivers in a one year time period. Officer Jojola also achieved her two year, five year, and ten year safety pins for safely operating a patrol vehicle without any preventable on-duty collisions. Further, Officer Jojola currently serves as the Area’s Explorer advisor, Field Training Officer (FTO), Drug Recognition and Evaluator (DRE), and the Public Information Officer (PIO).

Notably, Officer Jojola has coordinated the CHiP’s For Kids Traffic Safety and Toy Drive Campaign.  This campaign has made a positive impact on disadvantaged families in the local and surrounding communities of East Los Angeles. In 2019 alone, CHiP’s For Kids East Los Angeles collected 10,561 toys for the kids of the community.

Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo was elected to the 51st Assembly District in December of 2017. She is a member of the Rules, Appropriations, Health, Labor and Employment , Utilities and Energy, and Privacy and Consumer Protection Committees. Carrillo represents the people of East Los Angeles, Northeast Los Angeles, and the neighborhoods of El Sereno, Echo Park, Lincoln Heights, Chinatown and parts of Silver Lake.
