Dear friend,

Since its inception in the early 1900’s, under California eugenics laws, thousands of individuals and people with disabilities were forcibly or unknowingly sterilized at state-run hospitals until 1979. This practice continued until 2010 at state prisons, mostly impacting women of color. California’s eugenics movement was so egregious that it was used as a blueprint by Nazi Germany during WWII.

Dear friend,

Due to recent winter storms, power outages, and flooding, families across Los Angeles County have experienced damage to appliances, or have been displaced and evacuated to shelters or temporary housing.

Continuing through February 20, grocery stores across Los Angeles County, licensed by the Food and Nutrition Service, are now accepting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits as payment for hot and prepared food at grocery stores.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Yesterday, I joined Governor Gavin Newsom, Attorney General Rob Bonta, Senator Anthony Portantino (D-Burbank), and my colleagues in the legislature in announcing Senate Bill 2, which will implement several improvements to California's concealed weapons laws.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

If you are considering transitioning to greener energy sources, new tax credits could help lower the cost.

The U.S. Department of Energy is offering tax credits for families looking to go solar, buy an electric car, or install an electric heat pump. This aid can go a long way in helping you sustain an energy efficient home, while reducing your energy bills and fighting climate change.

Dear Friends,

I am honored to announce that California State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon has appointed me to serve on the California Film Commission. The commission oversees the California Film & Television Tax Credit program which bolsters our California economy and creates production jobs right here at home. Film and TV production supports well over 700,000 jobs and nearly $70 billion in wages for California workers, many of whom live in our community.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled his 2023-24 budget proposal on Tuesday. The plan addresses a $24 billion shortfall identified by the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst Office, and includes a $297 billion general fund. It prioritizes investments in education, healthcare, the homelessness crisis, housing affordability, climate change, and economic and workforce development.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As of today, President Joe Biden has declared a state of emergency in California, as the latest series of winter storms continue to cause extreme winds, widespread flooding, mudslides and power outages.

Dear Friend:

I hope that you and yours had a wonderful holiday season and wishing you prosperity, abundance and lots of laughter as we head into 2023.

Dear Friend:

Sending you and your loved ones our warmest greetings ahead of the upcoming holidays. I am looking forward to embracing all of the communities forming this new 52nd district, and I am immensely proud to represent each and every one of you at the state level.

Earlier this week, I was sworn in as your representative in the State Assembly, and my goal is to provide the highest quality of public service to my constituents. My staff and I consider it our most sacred duty to faithfully ensure that people across our region have adequate access to state resources.

Dear Neighbor,

As Thanksgiving approaches, I hope you and your loved ones are healthy and together amid these challenging times. We know food insecurity is a reality many families struggle with which has only increased in the last two and half years of the pandemic. I am proud to share that my office partnered with Centro Maravilla, Centro del Pueblo, California Water Service, the Dodgers Foundation and generous supporters to provide 15 community organizations with more than 400 turkeys that will be distributed to families across our communities.
