(Los Angeles, CA) – Today, Assemblymember Jessica Caloza introduced critical legislation to provide relief to individuals, families, small businesses, and nonprofits so they can rebuild and recover from L.A. County’s devastating wildfires.

“The loss, damage, and devastation caused by the wildfires is staggering and what we need now is action. Together, we must begin the long process of rebuilding and that starts by giving people and our most vulnerable communities the resources they need to survive.” said Assemblymember Jessica Caloza. “Small businesses and nonprofits that anchor our communities also face devastation and need our help. Our recovery must be swift, inclusive, and effective. I am grateful for the commitment and leadership of Speaker Rivas and as a united Assembly, I know we will help Los Angeles recover and be ready for the future.”

Summary of bills:

  • AB 262 (Caloza), Individual Assistance Program: provides direct cash assistance, up to $1,500 per impacted household, to take care of the essentials, such as housing, food, and transportation so individuals and families have the immediate resources they need.
  • AB 265 (Caloza), Small Business Recovery Act: establishes a fund of $100 million to help small businesses and nonprofits recover and rebuild. This program offers grants ranging from $2,500 to $100,000, paired with a 1:1 match, to help businesses not just reopen but emerge stronger and more resilient.
