Assemblymember Carrillo Commemorates Lessons of the Chinese Exclusion Act

(Sacramento) - While the Trump administration is discriminating against and persecuting specific groups of people, for many marginalized communities, this behavior is nothing new. At the State Capitol, Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo (D-Los Angeles) shares some of the history of the Chinese Exclusion Act (1882), and how the treatment of Chinese laborers could be compared to the hardships many immigrants are facing today. “This was the first time in our history where an entire group was excluded from coming to the United States solely on the basis of their ethnicity,” says Assemblymember Carrillo. “Tragically, this bigotry is still going on today.”
