Advancing California’s Reproductive Justice Agenda
Dear Neighbor,
After the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year, waves of anti-choice legislation were introduced across the nation, along with widespread bans on gender-affirming care. Without a federal guarantee to abortion rights, millions are being denied the care they seek.
We will not let this happen in California.
This year, the Legislative Women’s Caucus is once again partnering with the California Future of Abortion Council (FAB Council) to introduce a progressive reproductive justice agenda. I am proud to be leading on two of the priority pieces of legislation to ensure that California remains a safe haven for women’s bodily autonomy, which will focus on expanding access to healthcare and strengthening privacy protections to women seeking reproductive care:
- AB 1194: Closes a loophole in the California Privacy Rights Act to ensure that individuals searching for information related to contraception, pregnancy care, perinatal care, and abortion services will have their data subject to California’s strongest-in-the-nation data privacy protections, without exception. Closing this loophole will ensure that the right to privacy when one is making personal healthcare decisions is never subject to unwanted scrutiny.
- AB 1432: Reinforces that California serves as a safe haven for women nationwide who seek high quality reproductive access and services. This bill will ensure that California residents who own an out-of-state insurance contract are given the same access to these services as all other Californians.
California will continue to lead by example, guided by our commitment to protect all individuals seeking care.
