Groundbreaking Funding to Fight Skid Row Homelessness
Dear Neighbor,
I am pleased to announce that due to our efforts last year to add $750 million for encampments in our California State Budget; LA County received a grant award totaling $60 million that will serve 3,000 people on Skid Row in our fight to end homelessness. This funding is provided by the Encampment Relief Fund under the California Interagency Council on Homelessness, part of the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency, which I oversee in my role as Chair of the Assembly Budget Sub-4 committee on State Administration.
This important funding will assist the County’s efforts to transition unhoused people into interim housing, providing immediate relief to thousands facing dire conditions. It will also allow us to make significant progress against the ongoing socioeconomic struggles, drug addiction, and mental health challenges that impact so many on our streets.
