Purchase a Healthier Option with SNAP
Dear friend,
With so many in our community still facing severe economic challenges as a result of being displaced or evacuated by this year’s winter storms, power outages, and flooding, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended the ability to use SNAP benefits to purchase HOT foods and foods intended to be consumed on retailer premises.
Hot foods may now be purchased with SNAP EBT benefits through May 2, 2023, are considered SNAP eligible during this period and NOT subject to sales tax.
What does this mean? If you receive SNAP, instead of buying a frozen chicken and uncooked vegetables, you can buy a hot rotisserie chicken and all the trimmings for your family. Instead of a drive-through fast food meal, you can select a healthier option at a ready-to-eat food counter at the grocery store.
In providing the option for us to switch to healthier foods, we can work to reduce the risk of heart diseases, obesity, diabetes and so much more.

Recibe una opción más saludable con SNAP
Estimado vecino,
Con tantas personas en nuestra comunidad todavía enfrentando desafíos económicos graves como resultado de ser desplazadas o evacuadas por las tormentas invernales, cortes de energía y las inundaciones de este año, el Departamento de Agricultura (USDA) ha extendido la capacidad de usar los beneficios de SNAP para comprar alimentos preparados y alimentos destinados a ser consumidos en las instalaciones del comerciante.
Los alimentos CALIENTES ahora pueden ser comprados con los beneficios de EBT de SNAP hasta el 2 de mayo de 2023, y son considerados elegibles para SNAP durante este período. Estos beneficios NO están sujetos a impuestos.
¿Qué significa esto? Si usted recibe SNAP, en lugar de comprar un pollo congelado y verduras crudas, puede comprar un pollo asado caliente para su familia. En lugar de una comida rápida en el auto, puede seleccionar una opción más saludable en el mostrador de alimentos listos para comer en la tienda de comestibles.
