A Time To Be Grateful

Assemblymember Carrillo

Dear Neighbor,

As Thanksgiving approaches, I hope you and your loved ones are healthy and together amid these challenging times. We know food insecurity is a reality many families struggle with which has only increased in the last two and half years of the pandemic. I am proud to share that my office partnered with Centro Maravilla, Centro del Pueblo, California Water Service, the Dodgers Foundation and generous supporters to provide 15 community organizations with more than 400 turkeys that will be distributed to families across our communities.

I want to recognize and thank our incredible district staff for working diligently to secure these turkeys amid a national shortage due to the most recent avian flu. Thank you to all our community partners for making our Thanksgiving turkey drive a wonderful success.

In this year's State Budget, the legislature made historic investments to address root causes of hunger and food insecurity by investing $120 million in the CalFood program, which provides generous support to the Los Angeles Food Bank. Additionally, budget investments were made to the California Food Assistance Program, school meals for all, supplemental security income (SSI), and additional anti-poverty programs.

In the Assembly, my office is working hard to bring these resources home and help our communities thrive.

If you have any questions regarding these events or any state matter, please reach out to our district office at: 213.483.5151

In Service,
