(SACRAMENTO) — Wendy Carrillo (D-Los Angeles) took the oath of office to serve as the Assemblymember of the 51st District today in a ceremony at the Plaza de la Raza in Lincoln Heights.
“I’m truly humbled to be representing the 51st District,” said Assemblymember Carrillo. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues to help bring resources to my constituents. But most importantly, every vote and decision I make will represent the values of my district.
In the Assembly, Wendy plans on working to protect women’s rights, improve access to quality healthcare while working toward universal healthcare, ensure students get a quality education, create high-wage jobs, and continue to be an advocate for affordable housing throughout California.
Wendy grew up in Boyle Heights and City Terrace and is a proud graduate of local public schools including Harrison Elementary, El Sereno Middle School and Roosevelt High. She is a graduate of East Los Angeles College and Cal State Los Angeles, where she earned her BA, and an alumnus of USC, where she earned her Master’s Degree.
