Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo on Proposed 2018-9 Budget

For immediate release:

(Sacramento, CA) – Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement regarding Governor Brown’s proposed 2018-19 state budget:

“Governor Brown’s proposed budget accounts for the uncertain times this country is facing under the Trump administration and the inevitable economic downturn in our midst by paying into our rainy day fund. While this budget shows constraint to protect California, it does make important investments like creating jobs, helping small businesses, and prioritizing our children, including fully funding the Local Control Funding Formula for K-12 education.

“I look forward to working with the Brown administration in the coming months to ensure our most vulnerable residents have the resources they need, including Salvadorans, who are losing their temporary protected status (TPS) after Trump moved to terminate their status and end humanitarian immigration for 260,000 Salvadorans living in the U.S. since 2001.”

Assemblymember Carrillo grew up in Boyle Heights and City Terrace and is a proud graduate of local public schools, including Harrison Elementary, El Sereno Middle School and Roosevelt High. She is a graduate of East Los Angeles College and Cal State Los Angeles, where she earned her BA, and an alumnus of USC, where she earned her Master’s Degree.

Carrillo’s district includes East Los Angeles, Northeast Los Angeles, and the neighborhoods of El Sereno, Echo Park, Lincoln Heights, Chinatown and parts of Silver Lake.
