Dear Neighbor,

According to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority's 2022 homeless count, an estimated 69,144 people experience homelessness in Los Angeles County every night, a 4.1% rise from 2020. Of that, 41,980 are in the City of Los Angeles, up 1.7%. Overall, of those experiencing homelessness, about 29,000 identify as Latino, a dramatic 26% rise affecting individuals and families with children.

Dear Neighbor,

I am proud to announce a $17.2 million state investment to assist Clínica Monseñor Oscar A. Romero in developing a full-scope social services and health center to address the physical and mental health needs of the community it serves - largely Salvadoran, Central American, Indigenous, Latino mixed status and undocumented families.

Dear Friend,

With millions of Californians struggling financially with high gas prices, global inflation, and an ever-rising cost of living, my colleagues and I, together with Governor Newsom, have come up with a plan to help alleviate the burden by getting money back into the hands of people.

Dear Friends,

I write to you with a heavy heart, saddened, and deeply upset by the disturbing statements made by three Los Angeles City Councilmembers. Like many Angelenos, I feel betrayed.

The comments made about a child were distressing, and the racist comments are completely unacceptable. Over the course of a leaked conversation, we heard elected leaders make demeaning and racist remarks about Black, Indigenous, Jewish, Armenian, and LGBTQ+ communities, and it cannot go unaddressed. There is no place for bigotry and racism in our government.

Dear Friend,

I am proud to announce that the 2021 state budget allocation of $15 million to Homeboy Industries is now being implemented.

Dear Friend,

On June 24, 2022, the United States Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to overturn Roe v Wade, which stood since 1973 and generally protected a woman's right to have an abortion. The overturning means each state can create their own laws related to abortion, and many states are expected to outlaw or severely restrict abortion access.

Dear Friend,

June 3rd is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. California is among the states with the lowest rate of gun violence. In light of the shootings in Uvalde, Buffalo, California's own Laguna Woods, and countless others, we say "enough is enough" and reaffirm that there is no level of gun violence that is acceptable.

In the last decade, the Assembly has passed nearly 100 laws aimed at reducing gun violence and these efforts have kept us consistently below the national average in terms of gun death.

We can do better.
